People often ask us, “What resources do you use most often in marriage counseling?” This series will explore a few of our favorites. All three of our providers use the PREPARE/ENRICH Assessment tool with most new marital clients. Why? According to their website, “PREPARE/ENRICH is the leading relationship inventory and skill-building program used nationally and internationally.  It is built on a solid research foundation and significantly improves a couple’s relationship. PREPARE/ENRICH is custom tailored to a couple’s relationship and provides couple exercises to build their relationship skills.” We couldn’t agree more.

PREPARE/ENRICH is also a great tool to use with engaged couples who are planning a wedding. Talking through some of these major relationships issues prior to marriage can be extraordinarily helpful in teaching couples to communicate and problem-solve before issues emerge. Whether you are engaged or married, PREPARE/ENRICH allows couples to consider and reinforce their relationships. We ask our couples to take an online survey that takes between 30-45 minutes. The survey examines several areas of your relationship: communication, conflict resolution, roles, sexuality, finances, and spiritual beliefs. These results then help us to identify the areas of your marriage that are already strong, as well as those areas where you may need some improvement. After completing the assessment, you will meet with your counselor again to go over the results. We will provide feedback and work with you on learning some tools that can make your marriage stronger and more enjoyable. We often suggest homework assignments that will explore your personality traits, strengthen your communication skills, resolve conflict and establish goals.

We are pleased to be able to utilize the PREPARE/ENRICH assessment program and what it brings to the marriage counseling process. Feel free to contact us if you have questions about PREPARE/ENRICH.
