meet emily
Emily lives in the Upstate and is originally from Indiana. She has been married for over 25 years and has one teenage son. Emily has had varied work experience including being a stay-at-home mom and working in television news, at the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles and at Drayton Hall in Charleston as a history guide and interpreter. She loves history and especially enjoys reading about English history and visiting English historical sites. Emily, along with her husband, is looking forward to shifting into a new pattern of life as an empty nester that will hopefully bring more opportunities for travel and time spent with family and friends. She also likes eating out, watching movies and serving her church as an elder.
style of therapy
Emily uses a person-centered, non-directive, narrative approach. She offers comfort, acceptance and understanding in a group or individual setting in order to develop personal resilience and generate hope. In addition to Narrative Therapy, Emily also has experience using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy and seeks to assist clients with exploring their thoughts and emotions to facilitate psychological healing.
practice focus
Emily primarily serves adults who are experiencing symptoms of depression or anxiety as well as the challenges of stressors including life transitions and conflict in relationships. She has a particular interest in working with clients who have medical illnesses. She has offered presentations about preventing and reducing anxiety and depression in connection with chronic illness to area medical support groups and churches. Emily practices counseling from a Christian world-view, but recognizes the precedence of the beliefs, values and experiences of each client.
