Emily has lived in the Upstate for 13 years and is originally from Indiana. She has been married for 23 years and has one teenage son and a handsome chocolate lab named Winston. Emily has had varied work experience including being a stay-at-home mom and working in television news, at the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles and at Drayton Hall in Charleston as a history guide and interpreter. She loves history and especially enjoys reading about English history and visiting English historical sites. She also likes eating out, watching movies with her family and taking her dog for walks.
style of therapy
Emily uses a person-centered, non-directive, narrative approach. She offers comfort, acceptance and understanding in a group or individual setting in order to develop personal resilience and generate hope. In addition to Narrative Therapy, Emily also has experience using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy and seeks to assist clients with exploring their thoughts and emotions to facilitate psychological healing.
practice focus
Emily primarily serves adults who are experiencing symptoms of depression or anxiety. She has a particular interest in working with clients who have have medical illnesses or parents of children who have chronic or terminal illnesses. Emily practices counseling from a Christian world-view, but recognizes the precedence of the beliefs, values and experiences of each client.
